Invasive Species

Here you see that the Tuftonboro Conservation Commission (TCC) is in the process of eliminating an invasive species called Japanese Knotweed (Reynoutria japonica). Invasive species are plants, insects or animals that have been brought from other continents. What makes them invasive is that they outcompete all other species and eliminate biodiversity. The TCC hired a professional company in 2023 to remove this Japanese Knotweed. It will take 3 to 5 years of diligent work, if not more, to eliminate. This is not the only invasive species here in the Great Meadow. As in much of New Hampshire, there is also Bittersweet & Glossy Buckthorn. If you would like to help continue this effort, please consider a donation to the Tuftonboro Conservation Commission.
